Worship Leader – Jon Schubert

Worship Leader Jon Schubert with his wife, Kendra

I believe God will use any number of vehicles to get His message into the hearts of His people. Music was the chosen vehicle for me. I had grown up in the church but was in my prodigal early 20’s when I got the call. “Could you come play the guitar for these kids at this youth meeting? This wasn’t God’s voice, but my mother’s on the phone. I thought I was being asked to entertain a few highschoolers for an hour or so with some sweet Dave Matthews. However, when I arrived at the church building (of the rather conservative church), I realized something else entirely was going on. I saw electric guitars, bass amps and even (gasp) drums being set up in the fellowship hall. The church had just called a new pastor, and he was trying to form a group to do a youth-led worship service, music and all. It became my task, though I had never sung a note publicly, to lead this group of whippersnappers in the music. We did it. The congregation responded well to it, so we did it again the next month. And the next. Then the next week. More and more people came forward to join the team. We prayed together. We did devotions before rehearsal. And I soon found myself rather hooked on this music and the Word behind it being proclaimed. It was the Word I had heard my whole life but with a renewed sense of meaning now having a closer, more personal relationship with the Author.

I’ve tasted and I’ve seen the power God’s Word can have when delivered through this amazing gift of music He’s blessed us with. Wherever I might be of service in this process, I’m interested. It became fairly obvious to me in late 2024 that I was being called once again to this role at Woodlawn Chapel. I’m thrilled to be doing it and look forward to seeing what God has in store for His body of believers in this area and beyond.

“Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” - Ephesians 5:19-20

Let’s do it. We’d love for you to join us.
